The Best of Both

“A true leader is determined not by the number of followers one has, a true leader is determined by the number of leaders one creates.”

“A true sales professional is determined not by the number of customers one has, a true sales professional is determined by the number of relationships one creates.”

Yes, metrics matter. Yet, over a successful career, what is most admired in highly successful professionals is the positive influence they have on other people’s lives. As we grow professionally we are ultimately accountable for impacting more and more people in constructive ways.

Successful Leading and Selling share numerous characteristics. Mastering each element provided will ensure long-lasting influence and followership.

Be Present – Continually focus on the eternal moment of NOW. Only by “meeting” others where they are at today, can we effectively help them move to where we desire them to be tomorrow.

Be True – Authenticity is often discussed yet pressure to perform can cloud good judgment. Truly successful professionals are willing to adapt to meet other’s needs yet always remain consistent when it comes to their character.

Be Humble – Life offers tremendous learning opportunities every day. Being open to learning from everyone can be profound, from the college intern to a fellow executive. Everyone’s life experience is an encyclopidia of wisdom.   Stay curious and always be learning.

Be Generous – Give of your time. As we all share the same 24 hours in a day, giving of your time may be one of the most valuable offerings everyone can provide another.   Use your time wisely while sharing with others.

Be Patient – It has been said good things come to those that wait. It should be restated that good things come to those that are clear and consistent. Be purposeful in your intentions. Prepare for your desired outcomes. Then allow the universe to align with your goals.

Be Appreciative – Trusting relationships are built through ongoing actions. Showing appreciation for those who have helped in your success is a simple yet powerful approach to building momentum and delivering on dreams. Celebrating success with other like minds makes life worth living.

The characteristics of truly conscious, balanced and passionate people are intrinsic to being a great leader and person of influence. Regardless of where an organization resides on the “corporate lifecycle,” everyone would benefit from beginning each day in “start-up” mode. To scale and succeed, one must be passionate, focused and seek ways to make the world a collectively better place.

If you want to be a great leader, learn to sell.

If you want to be a great salesperson, learn to lead.

Now go make an outstanding impact.
